Silicone Implant for Penis Thickening: Design and Placement
What Professor Kurbatov's domestic implant is made of, how it is placed, and how the technique differs from filler injections.
Penis thickening with a silicone implant is the technique Professor Dmitry Gennadievich Kurbatov uses as the primary method of increasing penile girth. Below: what the implant is made of, how it is placed, and how this approach differs from injectable methods.
Why girth rather than length
Increasing girth is a separate request, distinct from lengthening. According to a survey of 2,865 women aged 18–48 conducted in 2021 (Kurbatov D. G., Malinina O. Yu.), 83% of participants rated partner penile girth as more important and 17% rated length.
Patients ask for thickening for three main reasons: the girth is considered insufficient; a small size is associated with low self-esteem and sexual dissatisfaction; there is a request to make the penis visually and tactilely more voluminous.
What the implant is
Professor Kurbatov and his colleagues developed a domestic implant made of medical-grade silicone. The material has passed toxicological tests and holds a certificate of conformity and a registration certificate from Roszdravnadzor, the Russian healthcare regulator.
- Material — soft medical-grade silicone.
- Thickness — 6–7 mm.
- Patent — No. 2867925, «Method of increasing penile thickness», registered on 11 August 2026, priority date 14 October 2025. Patent holder — D. G. Kurbatov; the exclusive right runs until 14 October 2045.
«We developed a domestic implant made of medical-grade silicone, which has passed toxicological tests, holds a certificate of conformity and a Roszdravnadzor registration certificate; we also obtained a patent for this implant and for the thickening method.»

How the placement is performed
The implant is placed under the skin of the penis along the cavernous bodies. Access is made through a circular skin incision around the glans. After the skin is mobilised, the implant is fixed and modelled to match the shape and size of the organ; the skin is then returned to its position and the incision edges are sutured.
Circumcision is recommended for a better aesthetic result. Average surgery duration is about 1 hour, hospital stay — 1 day.
How this differs from injections
The main alternative thickening methods are subcutaneous injections of hyaluronic or polylactic acid. The injected graft resorbs over time, which makes the result of such methods unpredictable and short-lived, and the effect may be aesthetically poor.
In Professor Kurbatov’s view, the optimal thickening technology is placing a synthetic implant of soft medical silicone under the skin of the organ: this gives a predictable girth increase and preserves the natural appearance of the organ. The technique is already widely used abroad and is gradually being introduced in Russia. A detailed comparison is in a separate article on fillers and the implant.
What the technique provides
- Predictable girth increase — by 2.5–5 cm.
- Natural appearance of the organ and tactile sensations are preserved.
- Both girth and penile length in the flaccid state are increased.
- Implant placement does not impair erectile function or reduce sensitivity.
- The achieved result is retained permanently.
- Low trauma and minimal risk of complications.
- If necessary, the implant can be removed under local anesthesia without consequences for the organ.
- In some cases the surgery can be combined with ligamentotomy.
Where the surgery is performed
The surgery is performed at the Professor’s Maka-Med Clinic — a resident of the Moscow Innovation Cluster Skolkovo, holding the exclusive right to perform such surgeries in Russia.
The technique is chosen at an in-person consultation: the surgeon assesses the anatomy, decides on the approach, and gives individual recommendations. The full description of the surgery is on the penis thickening page, results are in the patient photos section, and common questions about anesthesia, timelines, and retention of the result are answered in the questions and answers section.
